The Question That Started Milton's First In-House Staging Department
Twenty years ago, staging barely existed in Milton real estate. The Flowers Team offered complimentary staging consultations, and during those visits a pattern showed up fast. Consultation after consultation, the sellers getting their homes ready to list were all missing the same things: the same artwork, the same throw pillows, the same accessories.
Amy Flowers asked the obvious question. “Why are we telling all of these clients to go and buy these same items,” she remembers thinking, “when I could just buy them and then lend them out?” That is how it started. One practical question turned a piece of advice into a service, and turned the Flowers Team into one of the first in Milton to offer staging at all, and the first to bring it fully in-house as part of
the way we help people sell a home in Milton.
It is a small moment, but it is the whole Flowers Team pattern in miniature. See a gap. Ask why no one has solved it. Build the solution before anyone else does.
From Amy's Basement to a 3,500 Square Foot Warehouse
The first staging inventory lived in Amy's basement. She bought items, artwork, and accessories and stored them at home, lending them out to sellers preparing to list. It was modest, and it did not stay modest.
It grew, and it grew fast. As demand climbed, the team made the move that defines the department to this day: it brought in a dedicated in-house stager. That stager was Tara Llewellyn. She joined to run staging for the Flowers Team and no one else, and that focus changed everything. Working inside one team meant she could grow the inventory directly, learn the team's marketing inside out, and stage every home with the full sale in mind.
What Tara built from there is the real story. As the inventory grew past what the basement could hold, the team moved into a warehouse built for movers and scale. Tara turned that empty space into a working department. She shaped the inventory, set how a Flowers Team home gets staged, and grew a few accessories into a full 3,500 square foot operation. Amy bought the building and cleared the path. Tara made it a department. “Tara was the integral part of creating this department,” Amy says. It is the same pattern that runs through
the way we built our team across every department: spot what is missing, build it before anyone else, and run it deeper than any competitor.
Tara Llewellyn, the Stager Who Built the Department
A department is people, not furniture. Tara Llewellyn has led Flowers Team staging for more than a decade, and the department exists because she built it. It was not handed to her to run. It was hers to create.
Tara grew the inventory, shaped how the team stages a home, and turned a basement of borrowed pieces into a professional operation with its own warehouse. When a Flowers Team listing is staged today, it reflects more than a decade of her work. You can read more about
the staging credentials we showcase on her team bio page.
Milton Voted the Flowers Team #1 for Home Staging
The town has now said out loud what Flowers Team clients have known for years. The Flowers Team won Home Staging at the Milton Community Votes awards, an honour shared with Tara Llewellyn.
What makes that award matter is who decides it. Community Votes is not an industry panel or a paid placement. It is voted by the people of Milton. A win in the Home Staging category is the public saying the work coming out of that warehouse is the best in town, the same work behind
the homes we have staged and sold for Milton sellers. For a department that started as a practical question in a basement, that is a fitting place for the story to land. It sits alongside
the recognition we have earned across Milton real estate.
What Award Did the Flowers Team Win for Staging?
The Flowers Team won the Home Staging category at the Milton Community Votes awards, recognition shared with in-house stager Tara Llewellyn. The award is decided by public vote, which makes it a direct measure of how Milton residents rate the team's staging work, not an industry or paid honour.
Why Staging Works: The Psychology Behind It
Staging is not decoration. It is buyer psychology applied to a room, and it works because of two different kinds of expertise meeting in one department.
Amy understands buyer psychology and exactly where it fits in the buying process. A buyer decides on a feeling and justifies it with logic afterward, and the entire marketing approach is built around that truth, from the first online photo to the moment a buyer walks through the door. Tara understands how to make that feeling real inside a home. Knowing a room should feel a certain way is one skill. Knowing how to build that feeling with furniture, lighting, and curated detail is another, and it is the one Tara has spent more than a decade mastering.
That is the backbone of Flowers Team staging. The strategy knows what emotional reaction a home needs to create. The execution knows how to create it. “Everything is done and curated purposefully,” Amy says, “to create that emotional reaction from the buyer.” That is the difference between a house that photographs adequately and a home a buyer cannot stop thinking about, and it shapes
how we position a home when we list it for sale.
