Proximity to parks and walkability to schools are what residents mention first. Coates offers a wide variety of house types, so first-time buyers, growing families, and move-up buyers can all land here, and the connected pathways make it easy to get around without a car. A fun piece of local history: the pocket around Symons Crossing and Lott Crescent was once a par-3 golf course. The in-neighbourhood retail is lighter than in Dempsey or Clarke, and that is exactly the point; the sell here is parks, schools, and quiet.
Dorset Park holds an excellent two-way position: close to both the GO station and the Highway 25 interchange without living beside either, routes and timing detailed in
our commuting guide. The GO station sits close enough that parts of Dorset Park can walk to it, and the train to Union runs about an hour.

Coates was built in the second wave of New Milton, and the housing shows what had changed by then. Buyers wanted larger homes, higher ceilings, and open main floors, and Coates was built to deliver them.

Coates sits in south-central Milton with easy reach of everything in town, and the street layout is designed around small local streets rather than large through roads, so traffic stays out of the neighbourhood. Parks, walkability to school, and a wide range of house types do the rest.
Nothing is quick from Coates, and everything is close. That is the honest trade. Reaching Highway 401 means crossing town to either Tremaine Road or James Snow Parkway, and the Milton GO Station is an 8 to 10 minute drive. In exchange, almost everything inside Milton is a short trip.
Tiger Jeet Singh Public School (HDSB) is the public elementary school in the neighbourhood, alongside Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Elementary (HCDSB) and École élémentaire du Chêne, a French-language school. St. Benedict Catholic Elementary (HCDSB) sits at the western approach, and Craig Kielburger Secondary School (HDSB) and St. Kateri Tekakwitha Catholic Secondary (HCDSB) are both a short drive. Coates also has a well-regarded daycare centre. Schools are as per zoning to your home address.
Tiger Jeet Singh is a retired professional wrestler, businessman, and philanthropist who made his home in Milton, and Tiger Jeet Singh Public School in Coates is named for his humanitarian work rather than his wrestling career. The Halton District School Board voted to name the school after him in 2010, making it the first school in Canada named after a person of South Asian descent. The school is highly regarded by the families who send children there.
The in-neighbourhood retail is light, and for most residents that is the appeal. Symposium Cafe is the main walk-to destination, with a pharmacy, a hair salon, and casual food nearby. For a full grocery run, the Metro plaza at Thompson Road and Louis St. Laurent and the plazas on Derry Road are minutes away by car.
Many do. Coates was built at the point where nine foot ceilings and open concept main floors became standard expectations rather than expensive upgrades, so they are far more common here than in Milton's earlier New Milton neighbourhoods.
